Vasil Chichiashvili

Born in Akhmeta, Georgia. Graduated from the Tbilisi Vakhtang Chabukiani State Choreographic School in 1993, and joined the Ballet Company of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre as Soloist. Chichiashvili was Principal of the Mersin Opera and Ballet Theatre (Turkey) during 1997-2002 and Principal of the Macedonian National Theatre during 2003-2006, dancing roles including Ali in Le Corsaire); Shahiri in One Thousand and One Nights; Porgy in Porgy and Bess; James in La Sylphide; The Nutcracker-Prince in The Nutcracker edition by Vasily Vaionen; Vronsky in Anna Karenina; Feby in La Esmeralda. In 2007 Vasil Akhmeteli returned to the State Ballet of Georgia as Soloist. The repertory of Akhmeteli includes: Albrecht in Giselle; Prince in Swan Lake; Espada, Basilio in Don Quixote edition by Alexei Fadeechev; Prince in The Nutcracker edition by Alexei Fadeechev; Kolas in La fille mal gardee; Romeo in Romeo and Juliet edition by Leonid Lavrovsky; Frondoso, Mengo in Laurencia, choreography by Vakhtang Chabukiani, edition by Nukri Maghalashvili; The Roma in The Two Pigeons; Armand in Marguerite and Armand, choreography by Frederick Ashton; Kipiani in From Siberia to Moscow, choreography by August Bournonville; Hanaan in Leah; Kipiani in From Siberia to Moscow, choreography by August Bournonville; The soloist in Bizet Variations by Alexei Ratmansky; The priest in Dreams About Japan, choreography by Alexei Ratmansky; The soloist in Chopiniana; solo parts in Serenade, Chaconne, Mozartiana, Western Symphony, Tchaikovsky pas de deux by George Balanchine; Thais and Voices of Spring by Sir Frederick Ashton; Sagalobeli and Reflections by Yuri Possokhov; Second Before the Ground by Trey McIntyre, Stepping Stones by Jiří Kylián, Tampopo by Teet Kask. During 2008-2011 Akhmeteli performed in Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Chaconne, Bizet Variations, Sagalobeli, Marguerite and Armand during the State Ballet of Georgia’s tours of USA, Japan, Egypt, Armenia, and at the Spoleto, Jacob’s Pillow (USA, 2010), and Edinburgh International (2008) festivals. He also performed the Prince in Swan Lake during the Royal Swedish Ballet’s tour to China in 2008. In December 2009 Chichiashvili performed alongside Nina Ananiashvili in Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty at the Teatro Massimo, in Palermo, Italy. In 2009 Chichiashvili was awarded the Order of Honour of Georgia, and is the recipient of the Vakhtang Chabukiani Prize. He has been leading soloist of the Macedonian National Theatre since September, 2012.
