Sofia City Ballet was created in 2009 with the idea to unite Bulgarian top dancers in a new creative and developing dance company and to provide performance opportunities for young and talented classically trained dancers.
Since its inception, Sofia City Ballet has performed classical ballets including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, etc. The company works with artists such as Bianca Fota, Ovidiu Iancu, Gigel Ungureanu - principal dancers of Bucharest National Opera and Ballet, Vesa Tonova, Emil Yordanov, Marta Petkova, Nikola Hadjitanev - principal dancers of Sofia National Opera and Ballet, Arianne Lafita and Vittorio Galloro – Cuban National Ballet, Alexander Stoyanov and Katerina Kukhar, Tatiana Golyakova - Kiev National Ballet, Catarina de Meneses and Ionut Dinita- Maribor National Theater and many others
While seeking to expose its dancers to a wide array of guest artistry, Sofia City Ballet simultaneously encourages new choreographic talents and provides a stage from which to debut new choreographic projects. The company successfully toured UAE, Oman, Italy, Spain, Korea and other countries.
In April 2014 Sofia City Ballet toured Republic of Korea where presented with standing ovations, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at Sejong Performing Arts Center - Seoul and Sori Arts Center - Jeonju.
In April and December 2015 the SCB was invited at Brancaccio Theater - Rome with Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
In the same year the company took part in the musical Ibn Battuta in Royal Opera –Muscat and Expo Milan 2015. In 2018 a new staging of the ballet Giselle was performed in Bulgaria with big success.
In March 2019 Sofia City ballet staged the famous ballet Carmen with the choreography of Alfredo Alonso.
